Meet Commissioner To Tennessee Bowen Parton

We’re delighted to introduce Bowen Parton, the newly appointed Commissioner for Tennessee with the International Clan MacFarlane Society. Though still fairly new to both the role and his exploration of MacFarlane heritage, Bowen brings genuine enthusiasm and a deep sense of pride to the position. Eager to learn, connect, and grow alongside fellow clansfolk, he sees his appointment not just as an honour, but as the beginning of a shared journey with every MacFarlane he meets. Meet Bowen | In His Own Words

We asked Bowen to tell you all a bit about himself, his connection to Clan MacFarlane and his thoughts on representing the Society.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about your ancestors/personal family history

I’m actually not very sure of the exact MacFarlane connection. My mother’s father’s mother’s father is a Willson, a family claimed by the clan. Interestingly enough, when I got a chance to bring up the clan name and show our tartan to my great great aunt, she actually said it all looked and sounded very familiar.

Q: How did you come to discover your MacFarlane heritage?

My scout master was looking to start a venturing crew in the mid 2010s, the theme was “Scottish Highlands” and our uniforms were to be based on that, tartan and all. After hearing the Willson connection, and wanting more diversity in the crew, he gifted me two MacFarlane tartan neckties and a tam, at that point, I was all in and full steam ahead.

Q: What area of Clan MacFarlane history or heritage interests you the most?

All of it. Yes, I know I know, a very generic answer, but I want to delve into it all bit by bit.

Q: As Clan MacFarlane Commissioner to Tennessee, what are you looking forward to the most?

Meeting new people, and helping people discover our clan’s incredible history.

Q: What would you most like to accomplish?

To see our clan, our family is represented in every aspect of the games and festivals I have the honor and privilege of setting up at. I may have the title, but I want to see everyone who comes out to any Tennessee games and festival to be an active participant in one way or another.
