Katelyn is a valued new addition to our membership when we met her on our recent tour of Scotland during our Clan MacFarlane World Gathering held this past June.  We are so excited to have her and her family as part of our herd.

If you are a resident of Virginia and you would like to join and get more involved in Clan MacFarlane, reach out to Katelyn here.

Katelyn is a redheaded Scot-Irish lassie who has always had a love for her Scottish heritage.

She grew up in Virginia attending the Scottish Games held in the plains. From a young kid participating in the games,  to an adult enjoying the food, culture, music and drinks.

In her everyday life, Katelyn works full time for a financial institution and has a lot of creative hobbies on the side, ranging from painting, sewing and refurbishing furniture.

In their her words

We asked our new representative to tell you all a bit about themselves, their connection to Clan MacFarlane and their thoughts on representing the Society. Here’s what Mary had to say:

Q: Tell us a bit about your ancestors/personal family history.

I can trace my Scottish heritage from my mother and my father. On my mother’s side both of my great grandfathers came over in the 1870s, one from Glasgow and one from Ayrshire into the USA. On my father’s side the farther we have traced back so far is in 1780 coming from Scotland.

Q: How did you come to discover your MacFarlane heritage?

Growing up with the surname McFarland and attending the highland games in Virginia.

Q: What area of Clan MacFarlane history or heritage interests you the most?

All of it if I am being honest. I would love to be able to discover how the MacFarlanes lived day to day.

Q: As Commissioners, what are you looking forward to the most?

Getting to know my extended international family and attending the events.

Q:  What would you most like to accomplish?

I would like to spread more awareness on Scottish history and our traditions. I would also like to be able to help people reconnect with their heritage.
