Dear Clan MacFarlane Descendants, Society Members and Friends: Thank you for visiting the Clan MacFarlane Website and taking an interest in our heritage projects. I will endeavor to give you as clear a picture as I can, in the hope that you will feel able to, in any way you see fit, lend support to our projects. We plan to purchase property to create the Clan MacFarlane Heritage Center and Museum of Highland life, to become a focal point for MacFarlanes worldwide. Thanks to the hard work of some of our members in Scotland, we have located the Clan’s Ancient Battle Standard in a museum vault in Leith and have come to an agreement to display it once the Museum of Highland Life has been established. We plan to pursue, in the weeks and months to come, leads to the whereabouts of other artifacts. However, the museum will not only have information and artifacts on the Clan Macfarlane but will have information on what life was like throughout the West Highlands. We are working on regaining the Islands in Loch Lomond, Inveruglas and Eilean-a-Bhuth (I Vow). And, we are planning to have our Center sponsor archaeological surveys, excavations, as well as restorations on historically significant MacFarlane and Bronze age sites, including the aforementioned island castles on Loch Lomond. Local schools will have free access to our archaeology projects and to the museum with the hope that the children will learn more about their heritage. We have set a financial goal of US $400,000 to purchase the property and refit it to comply with climate and Security Standards set forth by the Edinburgh Museum. We want to achieve this initially on our own without public funding. After we have acquired the property, we plan to apply for grants in North America as well as the U.K. to help fund some of our special projects such as the restoration of artifacts, etc. We expect that this center will maintain itself. Hopefully it will also help fund other projects, changing a once small Clan MacFarlane Society into a permanent institution that will be there to preserve and promote the name of MacFarlane and our rich culture and heritage for future generations to enjoy. Since we first rethought our plan two to three months ago, we have raised US $50,000 toward the US $400,000 goal, as our members around the globe are rallying to the call. We have a Charitable Trust in place now to receive these funds free of U.K. income tax and are finalizing our 501c3 status for the Society in the U.S. I would like to invite you to take an active role in these projects. I ask not only for financial support, but also for your personal support, so that together we can create a lasting legacy for future generations.
